A melody begins. First tones hit your eardrums and you’re sucked in. The melodies and rhythms penetrate much deeper than words ever could and find a way to things inside that elude language or verbalization. If you’re searching for a conduit of flow music is it.
There is something hard-wired into us when we get here, a part of us that intuitively understands a well put together piece of music, it speaks to an inbuilt understanding that you’ve probably never heard explained but already understand – you need both order and chaos to thrive! So why music? Because it is a pattern, a hierarchical structure, an arranged bulk of chaos that at the same time allows the security of a chorus repeating itself giving the anchor of meaning, and variations of the main theme that keep it interesting. It is the predictable and unpredictable rolled into one. This is how we strive and excel – by having large structure stability that allows for internal variability and on each given occasion you can align yourself with any of these.
Too much order is just as bad as descend into complete chaotic unruliness. Tones bunched together with no order or logical progression are just noise, strict order of just repeating the same over, and over and over again makes you feel trapped. Music is indicative of the central internal constitutions of the human mind and soul, echoing the need to be grounded in the familiar and build upon it in variations to create something new.
Nothing that has no connection to the structures from the real can ever be relevant. Extreme liberalism and moral relativism of non-existence of rules is a sure way to destroy – it might have been aimed at destroying only the bad aspects of old ideologies and systems, but it takes the good away with it as well. Human beings need a certain degree of structures for a functional society to exist without crumbling into complete anarchy. And yes, each structure will favor some things over some other – this is what structures do – yet, the answer is not to destroy the whole structure but mutate its elements. Absolutely no structures means chaos, and chaos means not being able to see tomorrow which makes everyone involved cruel. You want to change the world? – Operate within the existing and change it from the inside. If you just burn it down, you’ll be left only with a wasteland.
