… is not selfish, it is not mean to shut out the world sometimes. Self-care is a necessary prerequisite for you to be able to care about the people and things you love. Personal boundaries and asking respect for what you need is what allows you to be open and generous with your time and energy. So throw some care your way today.
- Turn your devices of, get an hour of freedom from the schizoid constant communication. Get out into the sun – it will transform your cholesterol into vitamin D
- Set time aside to be alone and re-center, even if you can only manage half an hour do it – Read, meditate, talk to your rosemary plant on the window, knit, play solitaire, listen to an opera or a grungy tune, lay on the floor, dance the flamenco… whatever you wish, it’s YOUR time
- Don’t say “yes” when you feel you should say “no”
- Move your body. The brain and body are a loop feeding of each other’s signals. Growing roots into your couch will (literally, not figuratively) make you dumber
- Exercise your mind for the loopy reason mentioned above. Push yourself just outside of what you know and learn something new. Activate those neurons, they will regulate mood and being mentally awake will wake up your body and make it more willing to move and explore
- Say what you mean, not what you think you should say. Create a reality in which your thoughts, emotions and actions are congruent, nothing is as damaging to the self in the long run as not speaking its truth
- You know that nasty habit you’ve been dragging around that’s making you miserable? Stop it, you’re done with it
- Eat some freaking greens; This body is the only machine you have to work with to experience this life
- Say “I want to” instead of “I have to”
- Get near water – Drink water, walk along the beach, take a dip in the lake, take as steaming or a cold shower, immerse yourself into the tub and close your eyes. Water is amazing, there is much strength and clarity to be gained by its silent persistence.
- Slooow it aaaaall doooown – Be present at what you are doing. If you have no time to slow down, you’re addicted to being busy and this will not end well
- Simplify – get rid of what you don’t need, follow the postulates of elegance, leave only a clean for
- Purify – get rid of the emotional weights you’re hauling around as if your life depended on it, just try a mental experiment for a second and let go… see, the world didn’t fall apart and you can breathe
- Breathe – you’ve got the best calming system already installed in your chest, breathe, breathe, noticet he breath, breathe
