Aren’t your fingers turning blue from holding on so tightly – never really falling, never really climbing of the ledge – just dangling there in limbo as an ornament, between the freefall and perceived salvation? Aren’t you tired of confusing habits you dig your claws into and hold on for dear life with real life and things that make you grow, give meaning, purpose and joy to your day?
There is a song that said “The hardest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return” and it is only partially true. Because the hardest thing you’ll ever learn will be to let go (even though you love) and to distinguish between the things that are worth fighting for and those which have run their course. You will let go and quit, not because you are quitter but because you’ve finally learnt how to love (yourself) enough to discern what you’re allowing to crush your soul under the excuse of love.
You need to see the things as they are not as you’d like them to be to be able to act and free yourself. It takes courage to just stop loosing yourself to the wrong situations and people. You’ve been rummaging and rag picking for crumbs of goodness long enough – it doesn’t matter if they are romantic relationships, friends, family, personal or professional situations… Sometimes there is no closure and you’ll just have to learn to deal with it, or become a byproduct of that failure like a forever in time frozen emotionally stuck statue of what was. Situations and people don’t need to be present in this moment to have control over you. Control is given by the amount of time you spend hanging on.
These will be some of the most difficult and heart wrenching decisions you’ll ever have to make. Fighting for things was never as hard as letting go. Make a conscious choice to fall from whatever it is you are clutching onto. The fall will come in some form inevitably, be it when you’re grey and old and when it finally hits you how much time you’ve wasted or willingly. The thing is – if you decide to let your fingers loose and fall on purpose you just might land on your feet. You know what this thing is for you; stories are as varied as they are strange. Let it go, it’s over. These things came into your life not to stay but to pass. Cry it out, scream it out and let it go!
