It’s as a true as if a law of energy is governing it with an iron fist of physical newtonian inevitability and necessity. Emotion is energy experienced, vibrational tweak that aligns all around itself according to itself. You don’t acquire a certain kind of emotional landscape only because you hang around certain people, environments and situations but you create these environments by the emotions you choose to harbor as well.

Pain is unavoidable, a sure byproduct of living fully and not hiding somewhere below the rock waiting for life to pass. Even ultimate (or perceived ultimate) safety from pain will in fact cause pain due to regrets about all you’ve missed while you’ we’re hiding. There is no escape and the difficulty of life is equally a part of the Buddhist fundamental definition of what life is as well as its beauty, bounty and wholeness. Pain that just stays pain is wasted potential because it arrived not to hurt but to serve as a teacher. It arrived because we’re lazy and we never really change unless pushed to the point of discomfort where the pain will overpower the comfortableness of everything staying the same. This is an incredibly wide notion that could take pages and pages and pages but we’ll try to condense the point.

In order for pain to not become a corrosive agent leading into degeneration and infinite copying and pasting of itself in a self-generating loop, something needs to happen. There is work to be done, things to be understood and accepted in the crevices of our mind, soul and persona that will allow to surpass it. We can hold on to pain by choice for infinite number of reasons: The spoiled “why shouldn’t they suffer as well” whining that wants satisfaction, ego demanding attention through pity to add to its own self-pity, the selfish lazy cowardice of not even trying to change “because this is just how it has always been”… If the shift of transforming pain into inspiration, innovation, insight and wisdom doesn’t happen the loop goes back to the start and begins once more, hurting more people in a whole myriad of new sadistic creative ways. This is the root of most problems we witness today on micro and macroscales of communities and societies milking the suffering of the private and collective histories to gain more rights and less responsibilities. This is not how things change. Things change when the old wheel turning round and round breaks and you’re free to go off-road and find new solutions.

Hurt people hurt and all societies are just an aggregate of people. Contrary to the nihilism breeding passivity in which you feel insignificant in the larger picture, this is not true. Everything matters, everyONE matters. An awoken individual who’s managed to transform one’s pain, has something to say and wants to invest time and energy to share the knowledge gained through pain, the one who speaks with honest intent to relieve the suffering of others instead of demanding satisfaction for his/her own pain – is infinitely powerful. A few of these individuals and societies start to shift. Even if it seems stagnant now, just take a step back and look around. The horrors that were norms in the past are no more. It is not perfect, but it is better and better is all you can ask from a  faulable human beings in an imperfect world. Better is enough, better is good, and so is pain. Stop burying that crap under tons of distractions and deal with it before it transmits like a virus. Pain is not bad in itself, the failure to understand it is. We’ve had enough of tumbling around moral wastelands in the 20th century. It’s time to start building again.
